(by Renee Cassis) One of the most noticeable differences this year at the IAB Podcast Upfronts in New York City was the high volume of radio company participation, as iHeart, Univision, and Westwood One joined NPR, HowStuffWorks, Midroll, Slate, and others to spotlight their newest and biggest shows, along with their hottest talent. After 14 years in television, Mark Jaycox jumped to radio in 2004 joining the Salem Media Group in Milwaukee. He began coaching salespeople when he was 28, working for Media One in Chicago in 1995. He started out in radio as an LSM and his career took off from there. [read more]
 
KEGA-FM in Salt Lake City has pulled an ad opposing Utah’s Proposition 2. According to The Salt Lake Tribune the station received complaints that the commercial airing included false and misleading statements about medical marijuana. The Drug Safe Utah coalition was paying for the ads. [read more]
 
He had previously been banned from several social media sites for one week because of his behavior. Now Twitter has permanently banned the controversial host. Thursday Twitter announced both Alex Jones and his Infowars accounts are gone for good. [read more]

WEEI Boston morning show co-host Kirk Minihane took to Twitter Thursday to let listeners know he would be on indefinite leave to continue his battle with mental health issues. [read more]
 
Entercom will host the “I’m Listening” broadcast, a two-hour live commercial-free broadcast special across all of its stations, to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention as part of its multi-platform “I’m Listening” campaign. [read more]
 
 
Emmis Radio in Austin has cut a cool deal with Austin City Limits Enterprises in that market. KGSR, which has been a Triple A format since 1990, has been reborn as Austin City Limits Radio. Listeners can expect to hear artists ranging from Willie Nelson to Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran to Kacey Musgraves, and Radiohead to Gary Clark Jr. [read more]
 
The two companies announced a new deal that will include broadcasts of Westwood One’s NFL games on KGMZ AM and FM (The Game) in San Francisco. As part of the agreement, which is exclusive to the Bay Area market, coverage of select regular season and postseason games, including Super Bowl LIII, will be heard on both stations. [read more]
 
At the IAB Podcast Upfronts Thursday Westwood One announced the launch of The Empow(h)er Podcast Network and will kick it off with nine podcast series. One podcast already running is called “Run Like a Girl” which shines a nonpartisan light on women running for office. [read more]
 
 
 
Last week we reported that the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were launching their own radiothon for charity. Well the results are in and a total of $201,632 was raised for the Eagles Charitable Foundation with the help of radio station 94WIP. [read more]
 
The inaugural iHeartTheTroops auction raised over $57,000 to benefit USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, a non-profit organization that aims to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and things that they love. [read more]
