FCC Chairman Ajit Pai will keynote the Radio Luncheon at the Radio Show Wednesday, September 6. NAB CEO Gordon Smith said, “Throughout his tenure at the FCC, Ajit Pai has recognized time and again the indispensable role that local radio plays in communities across America." Former WOND New Jersey host April Kauffman (pictured here) was found dead in her bedroom five years ago. Nobody has ever been charged with her killing. Dr. James Kauffman, now remarried, was her husband at the time. He was arrested Tuesday after he pulled a gun on authorities attempting to execute a search warrant at his office. [read more]
 
On Tuesday, the Radio Television Digital News Association objected to what could be an upcoming move by the U.S. Senate Rules Committee that would make it more difficult for broadcast and other reporters to question senators about public policy in the U.S. Capitol. [read more]
 
Justin Hoberg owned talker KNOX- AM in Grand Forks. He started as a salesperson and eventually purchased the station in 1966. He also wound up buying KYTN-FM in Grand Rapids and stations in Bemidji and Minot. Hoberg eventually sold the stations and retired in the 90's. According to The Grand Forks Herald he died at his home on Lake Bemidji, his family by his side. [read more]

Bill Ashenden is joining Entercom's Portland cluster as VP/Market Manager as of July 10. Ashenden joins Entercom from BiCoastal Media in Medford, Oregon, where he was Market Manager. He replaces Tim McNamara who left a few months ago. Jack Hutchison from Entercom Seattle has been serving as interim Market Manager. Entercom has seven stations in Portland. [read more]
 
The National Association of Broadcasters has hired Josh Pollack as Vice President of NAB Government Relations, effective July 10. He will report to Curtis LeGeyt, NAB Executive Vice President of Government Relations. Pollack joins NAB after serving as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs in the Obama White House from 2012 – 2017. [read more]
 
The Steve Harvey Morning Show, syndicated by Premiere Networks, now has 100 affiliates across the country. Premiere Networks President Julie Talbot said, “This is a major milestone for Steve Harvey and his team, who have successfully entertained and inspired millions of listeners since The Steve Harvey Morning Show was launched nearly 17 years ago." The journalist, author, and CBS anchor is being honored by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation. She will receive the award at the 42nd Annual Gracie Awards Luncheon. CBS Sunday Morning journalist Martha Teichner will present the award, while Dylan Dreyer, weather anchor of NBC News’ Weekend TODAY, will serve as host. [read more]

It's a multi-year deal for U.S. public performance rights and data collaboration between the two companies. While details were not disclosed, ASCAP stated, "The mutual goal of this agreement is to work together to ensure that ASCAP members get paid more fairly and accurately for the use of their music on YouTube." News/Talk station KMOX-AM 1120/St. Louis has shown how it’s done, winning a triad of first-place awards from the Missouri Broadcasting Association. Corp! Magazine has chosen the mobile strategy and application development company as one of Michigan’s Economic Bright Spots of 2017. The company was honored June 8 at a luncheon held at the International Banquet Center in Detroit and will be featured in the July/August 2017 print issue of the magazine. [read more]
 
On Tuesday, the company launched a new lineup of original, on-demand audio content. audioBoom is debuting five new podcasts (one launched in February), including Very Bad Words, which premiers on June 14, 2017. Heather Birks started working for the Broadcast Education Association in 2006, after working for the NAB for four years and NABEF for six. BEA is an academic media organization for educators, students, and professionals. BEA hired Birks, because in the six years she worked at NABEF, she helped build, manage and produce the Service to America Awards, and helped launch and run the Broadcast Leadership Training Program.
