Radio Only Delivers 1% Of All Podcast Listening, Digital Revenue For Radio Hits $700 Million in 2017

Radio Headlines For Thursday 2-8-2018
 
A new streaming study was released at the Country Radio Seminar, Wednesday. And, there was a lot of good news for radio. The survey involved a wide group of audio listeners in the United States (ages 18-54) and focused on those who listen to country music at least once per month and those that use either a free or paid streaming service. That's according to Amplifi Media CEO Steve Goldstein who was part of a panel at the Country Radio Seminar, Wednesday. Goldstein would like to see radio produce more original content in the podcasting space, which has already grown to a $250 million business. Here's why Goldstein says radio has an advantage. That's according to a new report released by the Radio Advertising Bureau and Borrell & Associates. The $700 Million figure is 13.4% higher than 2016. Radio's overall revenue has been hovering at about $17 Billion per year. The report shows that digital ad revenue now accounts for 7.5% of the average station’s ad revenues, up from 6.3% last year. The comments started piling up immediately after Cumulus CEO Mary Berner said "Radio needs to grow a pair," in her first ever radio industry conference appearance Tuesday at CRS. A request by two anti-consolidation entities for an emergency stay of the FCC’s media ownership order, which effectively ends the ban on cross-ownership rules such as broadcast/newspaper combinations and radio/TV combinations in the same market, has been denied. [read more]

Courtney Landrum has signed a new multi-year agreement to remain on Entercom’s Y98 (KYKY-FM). It was also announced that the St. Louis station’s highly rated morning show changed its name to Courtney and Company. [read more]
 
The Academy of Country Music announced Radio Awards nominees for the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards, Wednesday, including double nominations for KAJA-FM in San Antonio, TX, KHAY-FM in Ventura, CA, KUBL-FM in Salt Lake City, UT, KUZZ-AM/FM in Bakersfield, CA, WFMS-FM in Indianapolis, IN, and WIL-FM in St. Louis, MO.
