On Thursday, SummitMedia announced that shareholder and private investor Jon Kelly reached an agreement to purchase the controlling interest in the company held by Highpoint Holdings. And with Highpoint Holdings no longer in the picture, and Kelly and CEO Carl Parmer the two main players in the company, you can certainly expect to see them grow Summit, when stations that fit into their game plan become available. SiriusXM reported $1.3 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2017, that's up 9% from Q2 of 2016. In addition net income of $202 million was up 16% from $175 million in the second quarter 2016. The company now has 32 million subscribers with the addition of 466,000 net new self-pay subscribers in the second quarter 2017. [read more]
 
Despite auto sales leveling off in 2017, SiriusXM is adding subscribers and generating record revenue. That good news pushed the company to increase its 2017 full-year guidance for self-pay net subscriber additions, revenue, and adjusted EBITDA. The company's complete full-year 2017 guidance is now: self-pay net subscriber additions of approximately 1.4 million, revenue of approximately $5.375 billion, adjusted EBITDA of approximately $2.05 billion, and free cash flow of approximately $1.5 billion. Triton's May ranker is in and it states that total listening for all publishers showed positive listening gains when compared to May 2016, with an 11.22% increase in Average Active Sessions M-F 6AM-8PM and a 13.46% increase M-SUN 6AM to Midnight. The E.W. Scripps Company's 34 radio stations will soon be available on Amazon Alexa-supported devices. XAPPMedia will provide the technology to enable the devices for the Scripps stations. Radio VP Steve Wexler said, “This is a big step forward for us. It’s important that we go where our audience goes, and this new partnership makes the Scripps radio stations easily accessible to our listeners across multiple platforms.” [read more]

Daly is also host of The Voice, co-anchor on the TODAY Show, and host of Last Call with Carson Daly. Something had to give. Nielsen reported second-quarter revenue of $1.6 billion on Thursday, up 3.0%, or 4.1% on a constant-currency basis, compared to the second quarter of 2016. Audio revenue, which includes radio, was flat for the quarter. [read more]
 
Univision has appointed Steve Mandala to President of Advertising Sales and Marketing. Mandala was most recently Executive VP of Advertising Sales. He will oversee advertising sales and marketing for the Univision Network, UniMás, UCI’s cable networks including Galavisión and Univision Deportes Network, as well as local media and digital. As he transitions into the role, he will work closely with Keith Turner, who announced plans to retire this year. [read more]
 
Callaghan hosted the KAT-FM morning show with Lisa Bennett for the last seven years. He was part of the Dubuque radio landscape for over 40. KAT-FM reported Callaghan died Thursday from complications of lung and pancreatic cancer. In September, doctors determined Callaghan had an aggressive form of lung cancer. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters, and three grandchildren. [read more]
 
Miami’s Sportsradio 560 WQAM has hired Chris Wittyngham as the pre-game co-host for Dolphins broadcasts. Wittyngham will work with former Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder as host of Dolphins Gameday on WQAM, KISS 99.9, and the Dolphins Radio Network. Wittyngham currently works for CBSSports.com as a host on their digital channels. [read more]
 
 
The Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton were on hand for 97.1 The River's (WSRV-FM/Atlanta), big day “The River’s Rockin’ Birthday Bash” on Sunday, July 16 at Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. The venue was filled with nearly 6,000 fans and the event was a party from start to finish. [read more]
