It was "no comment" all around following the one-paragraph note sent around to the press stating that Emmis would be exiting the St. Louis market by selling two FMs to Hubbard and two FMs to Entercom. With St. Louis coming off the board for Emmis, that would leave the company in only three markets. [read more]

On Tuesday, the FCC adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to eliminate a decades-old requirement that broadcasters routinely file paper copies of station contracts and certain other documents with the Commission. The goal is to reduce unnecessary regulation that can impede competition and innovation in media markets. [read more]
 
It’s a fact. Some stations have great “numbers,” but unless those numbers translate at the cash register, they may be ringing the wrong ears. That’s because numbers don’t tell the whole story, especially Hispanic radio’s rich and vibrant story. In an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Tom Joyner says he doesn't really want to leave radio but “I couldn’t get a guaranteed contract after two years.” Joyner is retiring at the end of 2019. Joyner has been in syndication for nearly 25 years, he's still on 95 stations and reaches 7.4 million listeners every week. [read more]

Phil Rosenthal of The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the NBA's Chicago Bulls may wind up on Entercom's WSCR-AM. The games were being carried by Cumulus on WLS-AM, however with Cumulus going through bankruptcy it wants out of that contract. [read more]
 
 
So far, about 275 companies nationwide have publicly announced they would be giving bonuses to employees this year, thanks to a tax cut politicians in Washington recently passed. PodcastOne is jumping on the bonus bandwagon. PodcastOne Founder Norman Pattiz announced Tuesday that all full-time employees will be getting a $1,000 cash bonus. [read more]
 
Los Angeles News Talk radio station 790 KABC swept the 68th Annual RTNA Golden Mike Awards on Saturday, January 27, capturing top honors in all five categories in which the station was nominated. The station has won nine Golden Mike Awards in the past two years and sportscaster Randy Wang brought home his second consecutive win this year. [read more]

Urban AC 102.9 KBLX/San Francisco’s Morning Dream Team co-host Tony Roberts decided to "join" the New Orleans Pelicans basketball team recently. During the warm-ups for the Pelicans game against the Houston Rockets, Roberts left his courtside seat and began stretching next to the players. [read more]
