Here’s a sneak peek at what subscribers will see Monday.

WILL BOB PITTMAN HOLD ONTO THE NUMBER ONE POSITION?

iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman has been the Most Powerful Person in Radio since he arrived eight years ago. The last 12 months have been very interesting indeed. Will the bankruptcy filing play a role in where Pittman falls on the list? How does Entercom CEO David Field's integration of CBS fit in? Plus with Cumulus emerging from bankruptcy, where does Mary Berner fall? The Radio Ink editorial team battled it out until the bitter end, and all the details will be revealed to subscribers on Monday.

THIS ISSUE IS MORE THAN JUST A LIST

In addition to ranking The 40 Most Powerful People in Radio, we have interviewed nearly everyone who's made the list. It's the only time you will ever have an opportunity to find out what all the most powerful executives in radio are thinking. Here's what we asked them this year:

  • How did your company and employees perform over the past year?
  • What can employees expect to see in 2019 and beyond?
  • Is the industry strong?
  • What do you want the advertising community to know about radio?
  • What is radio's biggest challenge, and how do we overcome it?
  • What percentage of ad revenue will radio receive in the years ahead?

If you were putting together a list of the companies you might want to work for in the future ... we asked the questions we know you want answered.

FOREVER MAN!

Jeff Smulyan has been on Radio Ink's 40 Most Powerful People in Radio list since it was created in 1996. It will come as no surprise to our readers that Smulyan has made the list again. Our writeup on Smulyan back in 1996 stated that Jeff was "well-wired politically and was an influence with congressional Democrats in passing the Telecom Act." With more deregulation looming, Smulyan's bird's-eye view of how the radio industry has evolved — and his hands-on approach to changing technology — make this a perfect opportunity to pick his brain in detail about the past, the present and the future.

SMYTH— A LIFETIME OF LEADERSHIP

Peter Smyth has been chosen as the recipient of Radio Ink's 2018 Lifetime Leadership Award. He ran Greater Media from 2000 until it was sold to Beasley Media Group in 2016. Smyth began his career in Boston as an AE at WROR-FM. He would rise all the the way to the top of Greater Media, and he contributed mightily to the indusrty and his local community. Former CBS Radio CEO Dan Mason said, "Peter has been a statesman for our industry for decades. He is a consumate broadcaster. He always led Greater Media with class." In this issue you'll learn everything regarding how Peter Smyth made it to the top.
